Malachi Rangecroft, GIS Manager, West Yorkshire Police
Malachi Rangecroft joined West Yorkshire Police in April 1999, and became the GIS Manager in September 2002. Since then, he has been involved in the development of GIS and spatial information improvement processes within the organisation, and has also been involved in groups trying to improve the use of GI within a broader Police and Emergency Services arena. Malachi sits on the ACPO GI Management board as a user representative, is the ACPO spokesperson for the Local Government GI Committee (LoGGIC), a member of the AGI Address Geography Special Interest Group and has recently chaired a National working party considering the implementation of a National Emergency Services Gazetteer. He has also presented at AGI conferences and the Jill Dando National Crime Mapping event and was involved in the development of the public facing www.beatcrime.info website that displays crimes via maps. Malachi is very keen to see an improvement in the use of GI within the Police environment and understands the need to work with partner agencies, such as the Local Authorities, to develop a collaborative approach to improving the use of GIS and spatial data. Malachi is currently studying for a MSc in GIS to develop his academic understanding alongside his practical knowledge of the subject.
