Neil Dewfield , Operations Development Manager, Ordnance Survey Data Collection & Management Business Group

Neil Dewfield is Ordnance Survey’s Senior Operations Manager. He has responsibility for Quality, Technical Training, Customer Support, Supplier Accreditation, as well as for Production Engineering, and analysing and improving all aspects of Operations. Neil trained as a Land Surveyor and held the posts of Chief Surveyor South Wales followed by a spell as Production Group Manager for the West Mercia area; before becoming Ordnance Survey’s Regional Manager for the West Midlands.

Neil then moved to OS Headquarters in Southampton where he was responsible for introducing satellite surveying technology and processes across Ordnance Survey operations. The Project marked a step change in map making, delivering 45% improvement in productivity and improving the currency of OS mapping by over 30%, over a 12 month implementation period. He went on to set up Ordnance Survey’s Operations Development department, which was responsible for continuous operational improvement. He has recently added the Data Quality Management Department to his portfolio to form a new combined, Operations Management unit.

Neil holds a Master of Science Degree with Distinction, in Lean Operations Management from The University of Cardiff, and is currently serving as a member of the Governing Council of the Institute of Operations Management (IOM).
