The Office of Government Commerce, in a report on flexible working in the public sector published in the summer of 2005, had the following stark message for the public sector: "Flexibility has become the byword for organisations as they attempt to find ways to respond more quickly to an increasingly dynamic business environment. Government agencies have not been immune to these pressures. The need for efficiency gains; improved service delivery and greater overall responsiveness have led to new approaches including the development of call centres, on-line services and one-stop shops. The people, information and communication technology and workspace need to complement each other so that overall flexibility can be achieved."

Now E-Government Bulletin has launched a conference to weave together the threads of this vital topic. The right technologies; the right working practices including home working and hot-desking; the right management practices; and the right property management - all are vital to create modern, flexible public sector bodies that can respond to the efficiency agenda and other policy demands of 2006 and beyond.

Come along and hear how you can play you part in instilling flexible working practices in your own organisation, helping your top management team, your organisation as a whole and your service improvement goals. Hear tips from those who have implemented flexible working programmes, and find out what legal and other pitfalls to avoid.
