Lord Norton of Louth, Conservatives

PROFESSOR THE LORD NORTON OF LOUTH [Philip Norton] is Professor of Government and Director of the Centre for Legislative Studies at the University of Hull. He was appointed to his chair in 1986 making him, at the age of 35, the youngest professor of politics in the country. His publications include 27 books and more than 100 articles in scholarly journals. He has served as President of the Politics Association and of the British Politics Group in the USA; he is Vice-President of Political Studies Association of the UK and Editor of The Journal of Legislative Studies. He was elevated to the peerage in 1998. He chaired the Conservative Party's Commission to Strengthen Parliament, which reported in 2000, and was the first Chairman of the Constitution Committee of the House of Lords. he has been described in The House Magazine - the journal of both Houses of Parliament - as "our greatest living expert on Parliament".
