Workshop panellist: Léonie Watson, Head of Accessibility Research Programme, Nomensa
Léonie Watson heads the Accessibility Research Programme at Nomensa, pioneering accessible design technology for the internet and is responsible for ensuring that all developments meet UK legal obligations.
Fully committed to raising the profile of accessibility, Léonie was invited to join the review panel for the PAS 78 - 'Guide to Good Practice in Commissioning Accessible Websites' and is one of the UK's ten delegates involved with the European Presidency's i2010 strategy.
In 2004 Léonie was a co-author of the Nomensa FTSE 100 Accessibility report, and has since published numerous pieces of research into accessibility, including the first ever United Nations Global Audit of Accessibility in 2006, which provided an analysis of the accessibility of websites from 20 countries around the world. Léonie is regularly requested to contribute to international articles and radio and television programmes, marking her as a major voice within accessibility industry.
She is also a founding member of The Usability and Accessibility Working Group (UA-WG) for the British Web Design and Marketing Association (BWDMA) and is on the Board of Trustees for the British Computer Association of the Blind (BCAB).
