Workshop panellist: Ruth Myers, Chairman, TAG
TAG is an organisation which
ensures that electronic communications are accessible by deaf people. TAG is
a consortium of deaf organisations involved in e-communications for sign language
users, deaf, deafblind, deafened and hard of hearing people. Founded as the
Telecommunications Action Group the group later expanded its remit to
e-communications, however, currently our main focus is on telecommunications
and
broadcasting.
Ruth has been involved in
ensuring broadcasting is accessible since 1982 when she joined the Deaf Broadcasting
Council secretary for 20 years. In the mid-1990s, the Deaf Broadcasting Council
affiliated to TAG of which Ruth has been Chairman for eight years. She has been
involved with the UK Council on Deafness since its inaugural meeting at the
House of Lords and has been Chairman for six years.
