Plenary speaker/workshop panellist: Dr Jonathan Hassell, Accessibility Editor, BBC Jam
Since commissioning a report into the accessibility of bbc.co.uk in 2002, made available to the industry in February 2003, Jonathan has driven the bbc.co.uk Web Accessibility Strategy.
As part of that strategy, with help from AbilityNet, he has produced and rolled out a BBC Accessibility Awareness Course to over 250 new media production staff. He heads the BBC Accessibility Working Group which researches and creates accessibility standards for bbc.co.uk.
He commissioned the new
bbc.co.uk Accessibility Help site, has been part of the steering group for the
forthcoming Accessibility Guidelines from the BSI, and has recently moved across
to ensuring the accessibility of the BBC digital curriculum project. He believes
that an accessible website is one which serves the needs of all of its users.
