Local Directgov Programme

The Local Directgov team will be at the Building the Perfect Council Website event to give information about the Local Directgov application and how to make use of it to enhance your council's website.

Local Directgov connects local services to Directgov by providing links to 240 services in all 353 local authorities in England. Directgov aims to make it easier for citizens to connect to information from across government by providing relevant customer-focused services all in one place.

Through the Local Directgov application citizens are able to access information for their local area by following specially designed links on the Directgov website. For example, a citizen looking at general information on a Directgov webpage about council tax can follow the link 'pay your council tax', enter their postcode, town or street name or local authority and, through the application, be taken directly to the page on their local council's website providing this service.

The most popular services accessed via Local Directgov include finding out about school term dates, Blue Badge parking permits, council tax discount and get local information on swine flu.

Local Directgov provides support for councils wanting to use Local Directgov links to link from their site to services provided by other councils in the area. For example, a county council can use Local Directgov links on their website to direct users to services provided by the right district council, and vice versa.

At this year's event we will be giving information about how Local Directgov fits in with the government's Point of Single Contact Programme and how we work with Directgov and businesslink.gov.uk to maintain strong links to local services. We continue to work with both Directgov and businesslink.gov.uk on web convergence.

Local Directgov will be running some interactive workshops with practical advice on designing websites and developing an optimum customer experience.

Members of the Local Directgov team will be available to answer questions throughout the day and can arrange 1 to 1 sessions for anyone who wants to discuss the following options and services

* LDG admin interface
* Point of single contact
* Web services
* LDG widgets
* Making the most of LDG links on your council's website etc.
