Mary Reid, Councillor, Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames and E-Democracy Consultant

Cllr Mary Reid is currently promoting community engagement as Chair of one of the Neighbourhoods in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. In 2006-07 she served as Mayor, having previously been the lead member for Children's Services. Before that she held the portfolio for Participation and Communication.

From 2003-06 Mary chaired the Local e-Democracy National Project, and when that came to an end from she served as Vice-Chair of the International Centre of Excellence for Local e-Democracy until 2008. She also served on the Local Government Association's e-Government Task Group.

Mary is on the Board of e-democracy.org, an international organisation that promotes local issues forums. In her professional life, for many years Mary lectured in Computing in Further Education, and is a well established educational author, having published over 20 books on ICT. Mary Reid also has a small web design business, and her websites include several for Members of Parliament, as well as for community organisations. Mary blogs about her life as a councillor on www.maryreid.org.uk. She won the 2007 award for the Best Blog from a Liberal Democrat Elected to Public Office.
