Ted is a technology and business consultant. His specialist areas include:

• Information and Application Strategy development

He has an extensive background in search, providing consultancy on enterprise search to some of the world’s largest corporations. He was director of consulting for Information Dimensions (the leading search engine vendor worldwide at the time) in the UK between 1990 and 1996 and shaped or managed many leading edge search projects in the UK and Europe including:
• the first UK Electronic Yellow Pages
• Reuters News Library
• Associated Newspapers – News Library
• News International – News Library
• Bath Information and Data Services (BIDS)
• BP Exploration – Exploration and research databases
• Pharmaceutical Research databases for Glaxo, Wellcome, Zeneca
His team implemented what was the possibly the first UK commercial web site to utilise powerful text search – for the UK Times Newspapers.

Since 1996, he has worked at a consultant, helping organisations exploit new technology, including search, with a focus on the Public Sector. He has managed search optimisation projects, including projects for some of the largest government sites (including sites delivering up to 20 million searches per annum).

He has also advising a national government on their citizen and business portal web site strategy. He blogs on search at www.tedcarroll.org and he has recently been developing new methods for search analytics, applying for patents in the USA and Europe. He has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Nottingham and a Masters Degree from the University of Leeds.
